What Filmmakers Really Want in a Professional Camera Monitor: Insights From Our User Survey

Three insights from a July survey on professional monitors

Most respondents said their current monitors work well for most shoots. But when considering their next monitor, they looked beyond panel specifications. Three priorities stood out: a faster and more intuitive operating system, color they can trust, and camera controls that fit naturally into the on-set workflow.

A Better OS Should Reduce On-Set Friction

76.8% of respondents said they want a more intuitive operating system in their next monitor.

Comments such as “Once it’s running, the menu system is frustrating to navigate” suggest that the problem is not always missing features. It is the time and attention required to find and use them when the camera is rolling.

Color Accuracy Builds Trust on Set

50% of respondents selected color accuracy as one of the top improvements they want in their next monitor.

Color accuracy determines whether users can trust what they see when judging skin tones,white balance, exposure and the overall look of a scene. Reliable display performance and calibration can therefore reduce uncertainty when important visual decisions are made on set.
